Description:
Rather than using programming for practical matters, this porject uses the craft as a creative outlet. Each time Now you see me, now you don't is booted up, it creates a unique sculpture-like form around the venus (female) symbol. 2021 was a tumultuous year for women's rights. The 8th of march celebrated women's day. After that however followed countless upsetting acts making one question its sincerity and humanity in general. Hashtags such as #notallmen starting trending on various platforms, the discussion of the "super-straight sexuality" justifying transphobia came up and racially motivated hate crimes against asian women in the US leading to murder (that were verbally defended by the policemen in charge) were taking place.
How much or whether at all the venus symbol will show up is different each time the program is loaded, reflecting the sheer arbitrariness in women's visibility in society. It is displayed on the Aesthetic Programm Showcase site. Try "Now you see me, now you don't" out for yourself here.
